Autumn Floral Arrangement

As the first rain of autumn falls gently outside my window, I'm reminded of all the reasons I'm in love with this season... the vibrant colored foliage, the sound of a crackling fireplace, the aroma of baked goods, and the knowing that the holidays are nearly here.

In today's session, I'm going to show you how to create a beautiful and easy-to-do Autumn Floral Arrangement.

When choosing flowers, opt for complementary hues (colors that appear next to each other on a color wheel). In this arrangement, I've opted for orange, red, and yellow tones. At least one or two flowers should be bought as a "bunch" (multiple stems), with only a few individual flowers (for focal points). In this case, I chose 5 large sunflowers, 1 gerbera daisy, 1 red rose, 1 coral snapdragon, 1 stargazer lily, and several yellow and orange-colored "filler" flowers.

Then select a bold colored vase that highlights one of the colors in the floral arrangement. In this case I chose a large, rectangular-shaped, red vase.

To increase the longevity of your arrangement, always use flower food (ex. Floralife) and fresh water.

Cut the stems on a diagonal using sharp scissors or pruning shears. Start with the largest and tallest flowers first. In this instance, start with the sunflowers. Place the tallest ones in the back, and shortest in front.

Then continue to fill-in with the balance of flowers, making sure to separate the "focal point" flowers, so that your eye travels from one focal point to the next.

Voila!
